Did you know that approximately 1,8% of the adult people in the world have real blonde hair? This is an extremely low number. If we turn around on the streets, we can see a lot of blondies.
So, now we know that most of those blond colored women are not real blondies. We all know the most famous blondie for all the times – Marylin Monroe, and no, she also isn’t the real blondie.
Just a quick guide so we can realize the difference between balayage, ombre, somber and flamboyage. These four hair color techniques are the most requested looks in salons today and sometimes it is hard to recognize the difference between them.
What Is Balayage?
This term comes from the French word “balayer,” which means to sweep. Balayage is a term that refers to the way the color is applied, but not the color itself.
Balayage is a technique where hair color is painted onto the hair to create a graduated and more natural-looking highlight effect. Hand-painted highlights allow for pops of brightness and contrast throughout the hair.

What Is Ombre?
This term comes from the French word „ombre“, which means “color that is shaded or graduated in tone“.
Ombre is a gradient hair color technique that is darker at the roots and transitions into a lighter shade at the ends. Light ends are often short.

What Is Flamboyage?
Flamboyage is a combination of balayage and ombre. The color starts above the midshaft and runs through the ends.

What Is a Sombre?
Sombre is like an ombre color but it is more subtle and soft.
The roots usually keep your natural color with a slightly lighter color on the ends.
It is perfect for brunettes that want to add caramel, blonde, golden or honey tone to brighten their color.
